Support Our Work

IARC would not be able to do what we do without the help of our wonderful volunteers, practical legal training students and pro bono supporters.

There are many ways you can support IARC’s work:

Volunteer legal assistants

Our volunteer legal assistants work directly with clients to provide information and referral services, take instructions and schedule appointments. Legal assistants also provide general admin support such as answering the phones, photocopying and filing and will have opportunities to assist with legal research and drafting.

Volunteer legal assistants are usually law students who have completed at least two years of their law degree and work one day per week for at least six months. Training and supervision is provided.

We look for volunteers with administrative/paralegal experience; good oral and written communication skills; the ability to take initiative and genuine interest in the issues affecting vulnerable migrants in Australia.

You can submit an expression of interest here.

Practical Legal Training placements

IARC offers opportunities to complete your practical legal training for admission to legal practice in New South Wales. PLT students will receive training and supervision and assist with legal research, drafting , observing and client appointments and help with other administrative and legal tasks.

We ask PLT students to commit to a minimum of three days a week for 60 days.

You can submit an expression of interest for a PLT placement at IARC here.

Read a testimonial from some of our recent PLT’s about their experience.

Professional volunteers

IARC is not currently engaging volunteer Registered Migration Agents but welcomes expressions of interests from solicitors, barristers and other professionals who are interested in supporting our work.

We would love to hear from communications/marketing, design and fundraising pros!

Email your CV and an outline of how you would like to contribute to centre@iarc.asn.au.

Other ways to help

If you want to get involved and support the work of IARC but don’t have time to volunteer, consider making a donation to help us maintain urgently needed free legal services to communities across NSW.

If you have other ways you think you can help, we’d love to hear from you! Email your ideas to centre@iarc.asn.au.
